Along with our adult firefighters, the Wheelock Volunteer Fire Department has a junior firefighter program. This program gives young people (12 years old and not yet 18 years of age) the opportunity to learn about firefighting, to train along with adult firefighters, and to help with tasks around the station. Under certain conditions, older juniors may be allowed to attend some emergency calls.
The junior firefighter program is designed to teach the participants the basics of firefighting and fire safety. It is our hope that this will allow them to develop useful life skills as they become an integral part of our community, while learning more about a field which may become a career or vocation in their adult lives, as well.
For further information or inquiries, you may attend a regular department meeting (2nd and 4th Mondays each month, at 7pm), or contact us at info@wheelockvfd.org
